Liverpool v Manchester united Liverpool vs. Liverpool v Manchester united Manchester-united
Liverpool v Manchester United

Barclays Premier League
25th October 2009, 14:00
Anfield, Liverpool

Last six meetings at Anfield
2-1, 0-1, 0-1, 0-0, 0-1, 1-2

1 Draw
Manchester united wins: 4
Liverpool wins: 1

One of the most eagerly anticipated match-ups of the season will take place on Sunday 25 October
when Manchester United travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool .
Manchester United and Liverpool are two of the giants of the English game, each having won many league titles and cups and there is a bitter rivalry between the two clubs. Over the last 30 years, one or other of the teams has been a dominant force in England. Liverpool were the top team in the 70's and 80's with Manchester United taking over that mantle in the 90's and more recently. For the fans of both teams, this is one of the games they most want to win and the atmosphere at the matches is always electric.

The early part of the current Premier League season has seen the form of recent years continued, with Manchester United moving to the top of the table and Liverpool lagging behind. Presently United lead the way in England with 22 points from nine games with Liverpool in eighth place, a full seven points behind their rivals, having played the same number of games. This is obviously worrying for Liverpool and Sundays game is really a must win for them if they want to be seen as serious title challengers, as they cant afford to fall ten points behind United.

Recent form would, however, favor Manchester United. They have lost only once in the nine league games they have played this season, when they were defeated 1-0 by Burnley. Liverpool's form on the other hand has been inconsistent and they have lost games which, on paper, they would have been expected to win. Of the nine games they have played this season they have lost four, and this is not the form which has teams challenging for the league. If they are to have a chance of winning the English Premiership this season, they must improve and this improvement really has to begin in Sunday's game against Manchester United.

Red stars doubtful for Anfield

Quote :
Five big names failed to board United’s plane to Moscow on Monday. Only one – Patrice Evra – is a certainty to return on Sunday against Liverpool.

Sir Alex confirmed Evra, who “had a little problem in his heel” and did not travel to Russia, will return to the Reds for this weekend’s crunch clash at Anfield. But United may have to face Rafa Benitez’s men without Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher and Ji-sung Park.

It will be a minor miracle if Park plays – “We’ll probably need two weeks,” the boss said in Moscow – while United’s medical staff are working overtime to ensure boyhood Everton fan Wayne Rooney takes to the pitch on Sunday.

“We’re fighting to get Rooney ready,” Sir Alex said. “It’s a bit of an uphill fight but we’re trying.

“With Giggs it’s difficult to say with the injury he has… and Fletcher’s a slight doubt. He picked up a knock on international duty. But we hope to get the main players ready for Sunday because it’s a big game."

Hope Rooney recovers and giggs, fletcher always plays well in these big games so he would be a loss but we do have cover.

If rooney doesnt make it, that would probably mean owen would start

Injury news for liverpool-Gerrard doubtful(still waiting results from scans from injury that made him limp out of champ league game),Torres and Glenn Jonhson both probable (but not definite)starts and Aquillani not match fit but injury free(needs to play more football esp. before an intense game like this)

.........................Vds

O'Shea...Ferdinand....Vidic..........Evra

Valencia...Carrick....Anderson.....Giggs

.........Rooney...........Berbatov

Subs - Foster, Neville, Evans, Scholes, Fletcher, Nani, Owen

That would about be my team, id pick ando in front of fletch. have a feeling fergie will go with a 5 man midfield though, obviously all depends on injuries but all our midfield or playing well at moment, ando been good last few games, carrick seems to of got his confidence back, scholes played well agaist cska moscow, and fletch always plays well in these big games.
If rooneys not fit or 100% he might start on bench with fergie starting with a 4-5-1 formation instead of starting owen.

I hadn't seen that site before but I've just checked it out-it's not particularly bad but it is like most unofficial sites(of which there are many ,as I'm sure there are many unofficial man utd sites),they try to look as official and as important and factual as possible but are generally only full of gossip so you may as well read a national newspaper as info.
My priorities of sources are -
1)liverpoolfc.tv (official site)
2)bbc sport
3) sky sports
4)liverpool echo (local newspaper with very close ties to club and often containing excl. interviews etc)

It's not looking good for Gerrard but if anybody in liverpool team could recover for this sort oif game ,he could so it wouldn't surprise me if even while injured he makes a short appearance. Everyone else look good to go.

Its not looking good for rooney and Fletch depends on training tomorrow.
But evra and giggs or passed fit.

I predict a close game, form dont matter in these games, 0-0 or 1-0 to us.
Cant wait for the game

teams

Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Insua, Lucas, Mascherano, Benayoun, Kuyt, Aurelio, Torres.
Subs: Cavalieri, Voronin, Babel, Ngog, Spearing, Degen, Skrtel.

Man Utd: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Berbatov, Rooney.
Subs: Foster, Neville, Owen, Anderson, Nani, Fabio Da Silva, Jonathan Evans.

I dont like the scholes carrick partnership in midfield they never play well together, i would of played anderson with carrick

Well done Liverpool Deserve it Sad

united was (not for the first time this season) shocking Sad

Vds - brilliant made a great save in first half couldnt do anything for the goal 8/10

O shea - consistant probably or best defender today 7/10

Ferdinand - bad positioning for the torres goal 6/10

Vidic - not his best game an got robbed by torres diving cheating sent off late on (again agaist liverpool 3rd time in a row) 6/10

Evra - solid game 7/10

Valencia - good game without really threatening to much got some good crosses in and hit bar from tight angle late on 7/10

Carrick - not a bad game he gave ball away to much though 5/10

Scholes - worse midfielder, surprisingly giving ball away very sloppy for his standards 4/10

Giggs - one of his worse games this season 5/10

Rooney - all the fuss will he play or not.. awful frustatetinly inconsistent 4/10

Berbatov - 30million Question didnt get much service tbf but didnt offer much either 4/10

Subs

Owen - got booed by the scousers when he came on with some judas chants Very Happy
but did more in his 15mins than berbatov did in his 75mins 6/10

Nani - did get forward 6/10

Fergie got his tactics wrong playing scholes and carrick was the wrong choose, ando has played the last 4 games and played really well, scholes an carrick dont play well together, i know i play midfield myself you need a blend..also scholes is not the same player of years ago he does it one game then looks shit the next he cant do it week in week out.

am glad at fergies reaction after the game its good to see him being honest for once... i hope he haves a go at the players cause they was not good enough..

Quote :
"All in all Liverpool were the better team, had the better chances and I've got no complaints."

I have to say i thought the ref was a joke AGAIN another clown on the pitch escaped from the circus, am sure he had a liverpool shirt on underneath, how you can book evra an berbatov in the first half for soft fouls when lucas made about 5 fouls and didnt even get booked, then it carried on an the worse was carragher brought owen down when he would of been one on one with keeper - carragher only gets yellow, should of been red.

Overall though liverpool (hate saying this) deserved their win Mad

Hope united hold on untill january were a player short ive been saying it all along if we dont sign a world class player, then we will win nothing, wheres this 80m from ronaldo? its so fking obvious, that left wing and creative midfielder - david silva and another striker david villa .. buy them both
Question

Only saw second half but in that liverpool were far better team, constantly attacking and pushing man utd permanently onto back foot. Game of few chances but man utd limited to ONE(Valencia shot against bar from very tight angle),Carragher incident with Owen was possible red card BUT they both went down in a tangled heap and if you watch replay Carragher falls first so his excuse of saying he thought Owen took him down is plausible. Vidic on halfway line should have had a straight red card not second yellow- he RUGBY TACKLED Kuyt ( arms around his waist and dived to take him down when he was the last man)

2-0
Deserved win by liverpool

Did you see fergie ranting at a referee AGAIN because his team lost and was outplayed, and the line from an ex referee is that the ref got the big decisions RIGHT(including the penalty call in the first half which i didn't see but apparently replays show carra got the ball first)-fergie's edging closer and closer to a full job suspension!(Ranting at a ref while under an investigation for same thing=very very naughty)

BTW According to link carra only got yellow for fouling owen because he was running AWAY from goal and rule states player has to be running TOWARDS goal to be a definite goal shooting opportunity.

then vidic didnt had to get the second yellow card his foul was on the liverpools side and carragher fouled owen in front of the goal, so think about that lazyitus Smile

Sorry about the caps lock micro but......

IT WAS A RUGBY TACKLE !!!!!!

No matter where you do that on a pitch it will always get at least a yellow card(you could do it by the opposite six yard box if you wanted you'll still get booked!),imo opinion it should always be a red card- but rules are rules.

The denying a goalscoring opportunity rule does not apply in vidic's case because otherwise he would definitely have got a straight red card.

Don't understand really the point you are trying to make, I'm talking about why a yellow card and not red card and your trying to say that should mean that a yellow card should be nothing Question Why? Because it's a man utd player?

no of course vidic deserved the red card it is just him, he sometimes playes a little harder than needed, and im saying that the vidic foul and carraghers were similar and then he should have been sent off too

I saw by graham poll so didnt bother reading it.

Didnt see the penalty but a liverpool player would of had to smack a united player in the box for us to get a pen with that ref.

The truth is, carra should of been sent off a straight red not yellow, but the ref bottled it and because of that only booked vidic when it was straight red.
All game he gave us nothing booked berbatov for nothing, evras was soft aswell.

Am sick of fergie just blaming refs though, we didnt lose cause of the ref, things could of been different if decisions went our way yeah true, but we didnt deserve anything.. awful performance ive seen it to often this season, the only times united have looked a class apart and champions was the tottenham game and that second half agaist man city.
